Mt Roskill Community Art Class – 10-Week Programme for Teens, Adults and Seniors

Join Mutu Community Arts for a welcoming and accessible 10-week community art programme at Mt Roskill Library. The programme is designed for beginners and developing artists of different ages, providing an opportunity to learn, practise and enjoy visual art in a relaxed community setting.

What will we explore?

The programme introduces participants to the foundations of drawing and visual expression, gradually progressing from 1D to 2D and 3D visual understanding.

The first part of the programme focuses on:

• Graphite pencil drawing and sketching

• Observation and visual understanding

• Line, shape, form, light and shading

• Developing confidence through practical exercises

Participants will then explore colour blending and creative expression using oil pastels and acrylic paint.

A-R-T Learning Approach

Mutu Community Arts uses an A-R-T approach – Absorption, Retrieval and Transfer – encouraging participants to observe, understand, remember and apply what they learn through practical art activities.

Each session is designed to be interactive, flexible, affordable and welcoming, with participants encouraged to develop their own creativity rather than simply copy a finished artwork.

Who can participate?

The programme is suitable for beginners and those with some previous art experience. Participants can learn at their own pace in a supportive community environment.

No previous art experience is required.
