Vital Village | Community Dinner and Conversation in Butler | A warm data lab series

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Befriend is hosting a series of warm, friendly community dinners and conversations in Butler that we hope will bring people together, plant new seeds of possibility, and change the way we see the world around us.

The world we share is complex and constantly changing. How can we make sense of it all?

Join us for a series of hearty community dinners & warm conversation, as we seek to better understand the changing landscape of the world around us simply by listening to one another, sharing our stories and exploring common threads.

This series consists of 3 sessions every fortnight in Butler or every alternative fortnight in Yanchep. Whilst it’s not essential, we recommend you make it to as many sessions in a series as possible so you can get to know each other better and become more familiar with the process. Feel welcome to come along to sessions across both series in Butler and Yanchep if you’d like - you can secure your tickets for the Yanchep series here, or keep reading to secure tickets to the Butler series.

You don’t need any experience to participate in these sessions. All you need is your curiosities and to be yourself! Everyone is welcome.

How much is a ticket?

The Vital Village series has been donated by Befriend with support from The Department of Social Services and is free to attend. We will provide a warm buffet-style dinner, tea and coffee for each session.

That being said, we do appreciate that for some, making a financial gesture is an important contribution. So, if you're one of those people (and you are in a position to do so), you're most welcome to make a small donation when you book your ticket that will go towards the running of this series.

What can I expect from this series?

You can expect to meet new people over a hearty buffet dinner, to learn new things, to have fun and build relationships - all whilst deepening your understanding of the world around you.

Thousands of people worldwide are participating in these enriching community experiences as part of a ‘Warm Data Lab’ movement. At its core, a Warm Data experience brings community members from all walks of life together to reflect, share and connect over life as we each see it.

We’ll come together to explore a common question (for example, ‘what is home in a changing world?’, or ‘what is wellbeing in a changing world?’). Small groups will reflect upon the day’s question through different “lenses” or arenas of life, such as family, community, health, economy, and more. Everyone is encouraged to move fluidly around the room, joining different groups to hear and share perspectives and stories. Then, we’ll come back together towards the end of the session to reflect on the experiences and the conversations we’ve just had.

These experiences have been described as a “kaleidoscope of conversation”, packed with enriching stories, laughter and insight that nourish the soul, transform the way we approach work, life and our communities, and ultimately, create space for new relationships to flourish. They can even plant new seeds for joint projects that renew and revitalise community life!

For COVID-19 safety reasons we request that at the event you:

  • practice physical distancing by keeping 1.5 metres between you and a person not known to you and keeping close contact to under 15 minutes

  • practice hand hygiene by washing your hands or using hand sanitiser

  • if feeling unwell stay home

  • be prepared to complete a contact register
