BLANK CANVAS: THE MAKING OF COMPOSTRAVE πŸͺ±πŸŽΆ

Join us for a series of workshops, talks and events with artist Andrew Gryf Paterson, exploring food, art, compost, ecology and digital culture as part of his Blank Canvas residency at Narture. The programme culminates in CompostRave, celebrating the work created throughout the residency through live visuals, music and dancing.

Please Note VJ CLEW: This is a 3-part weekly series taking place on Thursday evenings in November (12th, 19th, & 26th November) from 5-7pm.

VJ Clew is a workshop over 3 sessions to learn:Β

  • How to visualise the composting materials for a live event

  • Learning about VJ-culture

  • Learning together about open and free VJ-ing software

Our activity:

  • Make video loops from the composting materials & other related materials

  • Using different cameras and making 3d scans from composting materials

  • Practice mixing live videos using open and free VJ-ing software

Dates: Thursdays, Nov 12th, Nov 19th, and Nov 26th

Time: 5-7pm each week

Note: Attendance at all 3 sessions is highly encouraged, but please let us know if you'd like to come but can't make all sessions!

The workshops will lead up to Compost Rave, a closing event with live visuals & local DJ's by Andrew Gryf Paterson, celebrating the culmination of Blank Canvas, our six-month food and arts residency programme.

The programme brought together six artists – two local, two national and two international – each spending a month exploring the connections between food and art.

About Andrew and his Blank Canvas Residency

An artist-organiser, curator, educator, and researcher, Andrew Gryf Paterson explores how art, digital culture, ecology, and community activism connect. Originally from Scotland and based in Finland for over 25 years, Andrew’s international practice centers on collaborative, commons-oriented projects. They have also been vermi-composting alongside earthworms (Eisenia fetida) for a decade, and debut as VJ Clew. Explore their archived work at http://agryfp.info or follow @agryfp.

During the Blank Canvas residency at the MAKE studio in Ayr, Andrew will build a local vermi-composting site in partnership with local residents and Eisenia fetida worms. Starting with gathered bedding materials and organic waste from the SHAPE cafΓ©, they will build a growing compost bin system alongside public workshops on worm composting, circular bio-waste systems, and VJing culture. The residency will culminate in CompostRave, a live celebration featuring VJs, a DJ, and dancing to mark the end of the month long residency.
