The Victorian Mental Illness Awareness Council (VMIAC) has advocated for the human rights and voice of people with lived experience since 1982.
Since then, our Committee of Management has been crucial in setting VMIAC’s strategic direction. It’s always been in service of our vision: ‘all mental health consumers stand proud, live a life with choices honoured, rights upheld, and these principles embedded in all aspects of society’.
With our members, VMIAC has done some of Australia’s most radical advocacy on seclusion and restraint, the Declaration, and driving accountability during the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System.
