  • connect with our work, operations and governance;

  • Special Presentation (60 minutes)

Special Presentation: Budget Priorities for building a Consumer-centered Mental Health System

The presentation will focus on the three priority areas identified by VMIAC and the relevant recommendations of the Royal Commission, with a specific emphasis on the budgetary implications and funding requirements identified as necessary. The priorities are:

  1. 1. The 2024-2025 budget should prioritise funding for the establishment of ‘Our Agency’, as recommended by the Royal Commission, to ensure meaningful consumer engagement and leadership in the mental health system.
  2. 2. The LLEW should be further supported and funded, with a focus on recruiting workers from priority populations and expanding their roles and disciplines to strengthen the consumer-focused and equitable nature of the mental health system.
  3. 3. Funding for foundational supports for people psychosocial disability should be increased, with a particular emphasis on community-led supports, training and upskilling of staff, and building sector awareness to improve referral and connection pathways between health services and foundational support services.

The presentation will be followed by a Q+A and general discussion.
