Rarely are actors given opportunities to work intensely on their craft in a professional theatre space. This workshop is a place for doing, not explaining: an opportunity to embody the work.
Hosted in the New Benner Theatre (Metro Arts) by Kat Roberts, one of Patsy Rodenburg’s Associate teachers, you’re invited to join us for one or two days of transformative voice and text work. On Saturday (Voice & Presence), you’ll work on exercises in body, breath, voice and presence to release the natural voice, impact others and deepen your connection to self, ensemble, text and audience.
On Sunday (Speaking Shakespeare), you’ll extend this work into the interpretation of a Shakespearean monologue, applying tools and exercises designed to help you speak with specificity, connect authentically to text and create clear and convincing performances. Both workshops include ample opportunity for direction and coaching.
Participants will work on the floor within a small group, each receiving a personal voice evaluation and specific, actionable feedback to apply to their chosen monologue (Saturday - own choice, Sunday - Shakespearean monologue/soliloquy.) Acting students, teachers and anyone else interested in this work are invited to observe as auditors (observers), with the opportunity to take notes and ask questions.
ABOUT THE FACILITATOR: Kat Roberts is a highly experienced voice and speech coach, Patsy Rodenburg Associate (PRA) and Voice Lecturer at JMC Academy (Brisbane). She is one of a handful of Australian teachers personally trained by Patsy Rodenburg.
