Voices Behind the Seams | Ethical Clothing Australia Week 2025
Event description
Do you know who made your uniforms, PPE and clothing? As part of Ethical Clothing Australia Week 2025, we’ll be hosting a panel discussion featuring the Voices Behind the Seams: the hidden workers and outworkers within the Australian textile, clothing, and footwear (TCF) industry, who will share their personal journeys and genuine love for sewing, in their own words.
Exploring themes of craftsmanship, challenges faced by workers, and hopes for the industry's future, our panel of workers will be joined by Ethical Clothing Australia's National Manager, Rachel Reilly alongside our host, Linda Nguyen (Community Engagement Officer from the Timber, Furnishing & Textiles Union). Linda has a strong background in community engagement, taking part in campaigns, events, and outreach initiatives, to ensure all workers understand their rights and entitlements. Her unique insights and first-hand experience adds a valuable lens to the conversation.
An evening of storytelling, connection, and networking, this is a rare opportunity to hear from the skilled workers who create the garments we wear but whose voices are rarely heard.
