    Event description

    Join Murdoch University to celebrate and hear expert "Voices from the Global South" on Access to Information, Research, and Resources in the Global South. The first event in the series, it includes a panel discussion, along with the opportunity to connect and network over provided food and drinks/afternoon tea.

    The series will feature semi-structured panels and interviews with members of the CaLD community from both local and international perspectives and aims to provide a platform for sharing insights and experiences, with staff, students, and broader community.

    About the discussion topic:

    Discover how limited access to resources, inadequate funding, and fewer publication opportunities impact the work of researchers in the Global South. Learn about successful collaborations, which are bridging these gaps and fostering high-quality research, explore the vital role that institutions in the Global North can play in promoting equitable research opportunities, and hear about actionable steps that research communities, including those at Murdoch University, can take to address research inequalities and foster global collaboration.

    Our esteemed presenters include:

    • Prof. Rajeev Varshney, a renowned agricultural scientist who has spearheaded transformative research initiatives across continents;
    • Dr. Sheila Wamahiu, an influential advocate for education and gender equality in research;
    • Thinley Choden, a sustainability expert with extensive experience in fostering cross-border collaborations; and
    • Georgia Almond, a research support librarian who emphasizes the importance of access to information through university libraries to empower researchers.
