Volunteer Information Session

Volunteer Prison Monitors with the Pennsylvania Prison Society play a vital role in promoting health, safety, and dignity in PA prisons and jails.

What You'll Do:

• Visit correctional facilities to meet with people in prison

• Listen to their concerns and offer empathy and support

• Advocate for their needs and broader prison improvements

Why This Matters:
Many people in prison feel forgotten and alone. Your time and kindness can remind them that someone cares—and your efforts add up. When people feel supported and hopeful, they’re more likely to thrive—and that means safer prisons and better communities for all of us.

Prison Monitors must be available for at least one half day per month, and ready to make a commitment for a minimum of two years. If this sounds like you, we invite you to apply today to become a Prison Monitor. We are particularly interested in hearing from people who live in or around the following counties: Erie, Venango, Forest, Crawford, Schuylkill, Northumberland, Luzerne, Lackawanna, Pike, and Wayne. We are currently at capacity for volunteers in the Philadelphia area.

In order to apply to become a prison monitor, attendance to an info session is required prior to applying.
