Event description

Delighted to announce the next in our Votive Offerings Series - KITCHEN'S FLOOR  // MUTTER

KITCHEN'S FLOOR  is an independent alternative rock band from Brisbane, Queensland, known for their raw, lo-fi sound. Since forming in 2007, the band has built a dedicated underground following, releasing music on labels such as Siltbreeze, Negative Guest List, R.I.P Society, Quemada, Bedroom Suck Records, Bruit Direct Disques, HoZac Records, Petty Bunco, and Eternal Soundcheck.

Founded by Matt Kennedy (vocals, guitar) in 2007, Kitchen's Floor began as a DIY solo project with a rotating lineup. The name originated when Kennedy needed a moniker for a solo show in Sydney. His songwriting is direct and honest, often reflecting his everyday life in Brisbane.

Their 2009 debut album, Loneliness is A Dirty Mattress, became a touchstone for Brisbane’s underground scene, inspiring bands and a mini-festival, Deadshits. Their second album, Look Forward To Nothing, featured a cover photo of Kennedy in his share-house, a hub for DIY shows with bands like Blank Realm and Royal Headache. Several music videos, including Left116, and Bitter Defeat, were filmed there.

Kitchen's Floor has toured extensively, playing 30 shows across the U.S. in 2011, followed by UK, Europe (2015), and New Zealand (2016) tours. Their 2022 album, None Of That, was written during the COVID-19 pandemic, with Kennedy playing all instruments. The album was recorded by Luke Walsh (Blank Realm) and was named 4ZZZ’s Album of the Week in November 2022.

In August 2022, Kitchen's Floor appeared on the cover of Australian music magazine The Stew.

Kitchen's Floor will perform a stripped-back version of their set on the night featuring Matt Kennedy and Pat The Shark.

MUTTER

Electro-acoustic experimentation.Broken electrical equipment.Looping illusions.

Sufi mystic H-I-K says, “A person does not hear sound only through the ears; he hears sound through every pore of his body. It permeates the entire being.”

As new eyes and hands emerge of sacred sound vibration, you, too, renew all through. Now, hear Mutter unveil [in a beam of light] his cosmic child: Mooncast—file under Australian esoteric electronics.
