Victims Services Training for Community Workers: Wollongong

Community Legal Centres NSW has developed the Victims Services Community Worker Training Program to equip social workers, health workers and support workers with the knowledge and resources to complete Victims Services application forms accurately and to provide appropriate supporting evidence to clients and community legal centres making applications.

The training will provide guidance for making eligible applications and understanding the nuances of the application process, plus tips for avoiding common mistakes. It aims to ensure that more victim-survivors receive the compensation they are entitled to under the Victims Rights and Support Act.

This is a full-day workshop designed for community workers who work with victim-survivors of domestic, family and sexual violence who are potentially eligible for compensation under the Victims Services NSW Scheme.

Workshop content has been developed by a statewide working group of experts from community legal centres and women’s health services across NSW.

Brought to you in partnership with Illawarra Legal Centre, who will present the workshop.

Workshop structure:

Module One - Understanding the Victims Support Scheme

An overview of the scheme, types of support available, time limits, evidence and key considerations when helping a client to decide whether and when to apply.

Module Two - Completing an application step-by-step

A step-by-step walk through of the application form, with a deep dive into collecting correct information and providing valid supporting evidence.

Module Three - Lodged applications - what next?

An explanation of what might happen after the application is lodged, the internal and external review processes and getting legal help.
