Wacky Wetlands - Homeschool Environmental Exploration Day!

Calling all wetland scientists!
Kosciusko County's homeschooling students aged 3 to 8 and their parents are welcomed to register for "Wacky Wetlands," an outdoor Homeschool Environmental Exploration Day hosted by the Lilly Center for Lakes & Streams. From 9:30 to 11:30 am on Tuesday, October 13th, participating students and their parents will rotate amongst three stations lead by Lilly Center staff, college interns, and volunteers.
Participating students and their parents will both develop their water literacy and leave with a deeper understanding of and appreciation for wetlands. This event has a capacity of 75 participating students and parents. Parents are asked to chaperone all of their students during the duration of the field trip and to register all participants, including both students and parents, for one of the three ticket groups. Participants are able to select which group they would like to be a part of during the field trip when registering for the event. All groups will attend each station during the field trip. This event will not be rescheduled in the case of poor weather.
"Wacky Wetlands!" Stations
Station #1, "Scientist Sensory Hike," invites students to hike with a Lilly Center representative and explore a wetland habitat with all five of their senses as they discover how scientists learn by asking questions, making observations, and sharing with their community.
Station #2, "Wetland Races," will bring the energy as students will get to demonstrate the movement of water across Kosciusko County in a fun field game.
Finally, Station #3, "Taylor the Turtle," gives students the opportunity to put their imaginary scientist lab coats back on as they experiment with the effects of pollution in turtle habitats, including our beloved wetlands!

- Who am I registering?
During the registration process, please select one of the three ticketing groups and register all of the attending adult(s) and participating students from your family.
- What ages is this event built for?
This event has been designed with students aged 3 to 8 in mind. Older students and their adults are encouraged to register for a Homeschool Environmental Exploration Day tailored for students aged 9 to 14+!
- Can I drop off my students?
No, students attending a Homeschool Environmental Exploration Day need to attend with the adult they are registered with. Students must be accompanied by their designated adult during the duration of the field trip.
- Is this a self-guided event?
No, this field trip operates similarly to a tour process in which each of the three groups will rotate amongst three stations under the direction of Lilly Center staff, interns, and volunteers.
- Will this event be stroller-friendly?
Two out of the three stations will be stroller-friendly. Station #1, "Scientist Sensory Hike," requires gentle hiking along a single-person mulched trail.
- How do the ticket groups work?
The ticket you register your participants for designates which group they will be a part of as they visit each of the three stations during the field trip.
