~ Waddamuli everyone, come to our 3rd birth day, you all are good here ~
Everyone is invited and welcome to join us on Wangan and Jagalingou Country for Waddananggu Magarran, to
celebrate three years of Reoccupation at Waddananggu and learn about protecting Water, Country and Culture.
If you’re mob and need support with transport or want more info, give Gurridyula a call on the camp phone 0448 745 850 (using the Signal Messenger App) or message him via Messenger as there is no mobile reception at Waddananggu.
* Please register as soon as you know you are coming to help us plan for your arrival *

Join us for Ceremony, fireside yarns, swims, walks and time to relax and soak up Country.
WHEN:
- Celebration: Monday 26th - Wednesday 28th August.
- Arrivals: from Saturday 24th. We encourage you to arrive by Sunday afternoon (daylight) to set up camp and settle in.
- Departures: by Thursday 29th August.
- Join us: on our 2-day trip (departing Waddananggu Thursday) to Magandjin/Brisbane as we take Magarran to the city
WHERE: Waddananggu Cultural Ceremony site on Wangan and Jagalingou Country in central
Queensland, around a 13 hour drive north from Brisbane and 9 hours drive south from Cairns.
GETTING THERE:
- Driving: is the one guaranteed way to get to Waddananggu! Carpooling can be self-organised in the Facebook Organising Space. If you are driving, please consider helping others attend by proactively offering a lift.
- Flying: There are flights to/from Emerald, about 5 hours from Waddananggu. If you wish to fly you will first need to self-organise a hire car or a pick up from someone who is driving using the Facebook Organising Space.
-
Bus/Train: Both Mackay and Emerald would be good towns to consider getting to, opening your
pickup/drop off options to people travelling to/from Mackay and Brisbane respectively. Clermont (bus) is also a
good option, opening yourself up to both Mackay and Brisbane travelers. You will need to self-organise your pick
up and drop off before you book. Get help from other participants in the Facebook Organising Space.
ACCOMMODATION: you will need to bring your own camping gear or camper vehicle.
MEALS + WATER:
-
BYO meals, snacks and everything you need to be self-sufficient. E.g. esky, gas+cooker (or you can
use a campfire), saucepan, crockery + cutlery and mug. Please note:
* There is no communal refrigeration onsite for your food, however, medication can be refrigerated. The nearest ice is an hour away - so plan your meals carefully!
* There is a camp kitchen that can be used at a pinch, however its capacity is limited (and is also where those that live full time at Waddananggu cook), so please be self-sufficient/use the fires if you can.
- Some meals may be provided and we will let everyone registered by Friday 16th Aug know in advance if this happens. Donations kindly accepted to cover these meal costs.
- Tea, coffee and milk provided (dairy, almond, oat and soy).
-
BYO water. There is water on site - however it needs to be manually replenished so we encourage you
to bring as much water as you can for personal use.
COST: This celebration is free, however you can make an optional ‘pay it forward’
donation to help mob attend.

In August 2021, we set up a stone Bora ring and ceremonial ground opposite Adani’s mine and have been continuously re-occupying our land since then, asserting our human rights as Wangan and Jagalingou people to practise culture and live on our homelands. Despite Adani’s attempts to remove and antagonise us, we have continued our cultural ceremony unhindered. And we have made history - our rights to practise our culture on a mining lease have now been recognised under the Queensland Human Rights Act. Join us for a very special three day celebration at Waddananggu to mark three years of strength, determination and Wangan and Jagalingou resilience. |
