If the land is well and the sea is well, the people will thrive.

"Mana Moana Mana Tangata" is a documentary film that chronicles the struggle of the Māori people against systemic racism and colonial injustice, specifically focusing on their fight to reclaim fishing rights. The film highlights their resilience and legal strategies in securing a place in the fishing industry, marking a significant victory for Indigenous sovereignty. It also explores the ongoing fight for equity and environmental stewardship within the Māori community, showcasing both the triumphs and ongoing challenges. The film emphasizes the universal themes of injustice, perseverance, and the ways Indigenous communities navigate power structures while resisting colonization. It was supported by several organisations, including Whakaata Māori, Te Mangai Pāho, Te Ohu Kaimoana, and Moana NZ.
