Waiheke Collective Film Festival - Raukūmara Pae Maunga | Why Apu?
Waiheke Community Cinema
Waiheke Island, New Zealand
Event description
An screening with Te Korowai o Waiheke and Te Amokura Productions
Join Te Korowai o Waiheke for a powerful and moving journey into the heart of the Raukūmara Ranges — a forest on the brink, and a people rising to restore it.
In Episode One (Raukūmara Pae Maunga), discover the deep spiritual connection between Ngāti Porou, Te Whānau-ā-Apanui, and their ancestral ngahere. Feel the passion and purpose driving their mission to heal the land, knowing that the health of all life downstream depends on it.
Then in Episode Two ( Te Awa o Waiapu), witness the impacts of erosion and extreme weather as the Waiapu River and surrounding landscape are dramatically reshaped. This episode focuses on the high rates of river sedimentation and the impact on the community's ability to gather kaimoana (seafood)
This is more than a documentary. It’s a call to action — and a story of hope, identity, and resilience.
These episodes are part of a six-part series. Produced by Te Amokura Productions & supported by Te Māngai Pāho and NZ On Air.
