Join volunteers from Sea Shepherd for a beach clean-up day at Waitpinga Beach at Newland Head Conservation Park. This beautiful stretch of coastline with its rolling sand dunes and powerful ocean swell is a favourite beach for surfers and fishers and bushwalkers traveling the Wild South Coast Way and the Heysen Trail. The adjacent coastal waters are part of the Encounter Marine Park which stretches from the Murray River Mouth to Christies Beach, encompassing the coastlines and coastal waters of Encounter Bay, the north coast of Kangaroo Island and the Fleurieu Peninsula.

Sea Shepherd have been facilitating beach cleans since 2015 and in that time have run over 1000 public beach cleans. Their volunteers are passionate about protecting the oceans by taking direct action both in the oceans and on land. The Sea Shepherd Marine Debris Campaign focus is to capture ocean bound rubbish, before it ends up in the ocean and to collect debris that washes up.

Last year, this event resulted in the collection and removal of over 32kg of rubbish from the beach!

Who is this event for?

This activity is for everyone. Children must be supervised at all times as the beach is known for large surf and strong rips.

Accessibility:

This activity will involve walking and collecting rubbish on a sandy beach. Beach access is via a boardwalk and stairs. This activity is not suitable for wheelchair users or people with limited mobility.
