Slim Dusty is a true legend of Australian music. With a career that kicked off in the 1940s and continued until his passing in 2003, Slim was the first Australian artist to score a hit record and went on to become the country's most prolific recording artist. Boasting over seven million record sales, he remains one of Australia's top-selling musicians to this day.

The "Walk A Country Mile" show is a heartfelt tribute to Slim's music, brought to life by Mick Fetch — a devoted fan who truly understands the spirit behind Slim's songs. Born and raised in Newcastle, Mick has spent much of his life out in the bush, working on remote cattle properties. During that time, Slim's music became a constant companion. “My first album was Live at Wagga Wagga, recorded the same year I was born. I was hooked, and those songs still give me chills today,” Mick shares. “Slim always connected with his audience. His songs are like yarns you’d hear from a mate at the pub, around a campfire, or at a backyard barbie.”

Mick's aim for this show is simple yet ambitious — to give Slim Dusty's fans a chance to hear the classics they know and love, as well as a few hidden gems from across Slim's extensive catalog. “I definitely don't look like Slim,” Mick laughs, “but the band and I are committed to recreating the music as faithfully as possible, right down to the authentic instrumentation. Slim's fans know every nuance — those Barry Thornton guitar licks have to land just right, and we’re determined to respect every detail.”

The performance will be an intimate, two-hour experience, tracing Slim's career from his early days through to his later projects. “There's just so much material to cover, and fitting it all into two hours is a real challenge!” Mick admits.

Joining Mick on stage is a talented lineup of musicians, including Newcastle’s own multi-award-winning Robbie Long on guitar, dobro, lap steel, and mandolin, Blue Mountains fiddle maestro John Lee, and a solid rhythm section with Adam Wilton and Richard Iles, who are well known to local Hunter audiences and country music fans.

For Slim Dusty fans, the "Walk A Country Mile" show is a genuine celebration of his timeless storytelling and iconic sound.
