Description

We are excited to present our walk/kayak combo for 2026! Join us as we explore the Te Muri Regional Park and paddle the Pūhoi River to our final destination at Pūhoi township. PLEASE ONLY BOOK THIS TRAIL IF YOU ARE COMFORTABLE WITH, AND HAVE EXPERIENCE OF PADDLING A KAYAK. YOUR SAFETY IS OUR PARAMOUNT CONCERN.

In order to work with the tides, our wonderful trail starts with the walk. This year the bus will drop us in the Te Muri Regional Park and we start walking on the downward sloping ridge to Te Muri Beach and the old joint Māori/Pakeha cemetery.

We’ll ford the Te Muri stream at low tide and follow the track to Cudlip Point and on to Sullivan’s Bay, if time permits. Looping back, we re-cross the stream and head along the beach to the south end of the park and down to the historic homestead on the banks of the Pūhoi River.

On arrival, we’ll meet with Pūhoi River Kayaks and prepare for the paddle upriver. After gearing up and a safety briefing, we catch the incoming tide for a relaxed and enjoyable paddle to Pūhoi. We’ll take our packs with us in the kayaks so pack light and waterproof.

Finally, we can take a quick stroll along the road to the pub for restorative beverage and the bus ride back to base.

We'll take our time and enjoy the views, and stop for snacks, lunch and stories along the way – there's no rush. Much of the day is spent on good tracks, but there are some stretches of uneven ground across paddocks and there are couple of steep hills to negotiate.

This combination of walk and paddle will be very exciting and beautiful, and features an amazing array of rivers, beaches, headlands, bush and stunning vistas. We can’t wait to show you around.
