Walking with Life: Looking Closer After Dark
Description
After work? Come unwind and bring your dinner.
Come explore the weird and wild world of insects and other invertebrates on this ecologist-led evening walk at Whites Hill Reserve, Holland Park, South-east Queensland!
These walks are short in distance, often only 200m to 500m long, where we “get out eye in” and learn to see the many and varied life-forms sustained by different ecosystems. Together, we’ll learn about how these often-underappreciated creatures interact with and shape the world around us. This event uses specialised lights to draw in insects for us to appreciate and observe. It really is a magical experience and no two events are the same!
This tour is suited for all ages, but under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
We will send you the exact location 24 hours prior to the walk, so please keep an eye on your emails.
Transport & Facilities
Public toilet facilities are not readily accessible at this location. Facilities are a 1.7km walk through the park, a few minutes by car.
It is somewhat accessible by public transport, Route 180 from the Cultural Centre takes around 30 min including a 10 min walk from the nearest bus stop. Personal transportation is recommended (and carpooling is strongly encouraged!).
The tour lasts for approximately two and a half hours on designated paths. The paths of compacted earth are wheelchair and pram accessible.
What to bring
Please come dressed in appropriate long-sleeved clothing with closed toe shoes. Please also bring a torch or head torch (red light is preferable, but not required).
If you wish to apply repellents, please do so before your arrival as these can harm the life-forms we wish to learn about.
Engaging with citizen science (CitSci)
Photography is encouraged. There is a strict no collection policy.
We actively encourage you to use the iNaturalist app, and upload images. If this is new to you we will help where we can. Please avoid duplicating the uploading of lifeform being observed, if possible.
Pricing: Pay-from-the-Heart
