Wandering OFF-Menu
Event description
Long Prawn, first nations guide Dean Stewart and Furrmien are proud to present:
Wandering OFF Menu > A food walk looking at locations of edible interest and erasure of both colonial and indigenous food pathways along the Birrarung.
Like many central sites within a colonised landscape, the Birrarung is witness to a vast overlapping of indigenous food systems and introduced food systems. As we develop further it is important to examine both what is lost and what can be created.
Guests will be taken to places that no longer exist, examining what is deleted when things are created. Long Prawn, through both historically grounded and newly invented foodstuffs, will ask the audience to consider the ongoing impacts of how we eat, what is gained, and what is forgotten.
From indigenous eel routes, banana ripening vaults, 24hr floating pies to floating restaurants, charcuterie on small boats and riverside ‘barbies’. A menu where no idea is off-topic, where the river bends as our minds do.
Accessibility: This event will be a calm event but hosted in a public space. The event involves a short walk (600m) with limited seating along the way. The path will avoid stairs yet there will be some subtle inclines. Please feel free to reach out to us directly at mail@longprawn.com so we can try our best to accommodate all your needs.
Dietary considerations: Due to the limited and open nature of this event we won't be able to make any changes to menu items on the day. The food items provided will contain fish/eel, gluten, soy and egg products. Please notify us if you have any severe allergies to be aware of in advance.
