waranj yilaga-gunda School Holiday Program | Bushfoods + Medicines Workshop

Join djinjamandjali for a hands-on bushfoods and medicines experience on Country for kids of all ages and their parents during the spring school holidays. waranj yilaga-gunda means 'very happy child' in dhurga and we want children of all ages to experience joy through learning about local culture during their time of rest and re-energising between their busy school terms.

During this bushfoods and medicines workshop kids and parents will take part in:

• a Welcome to Country and traditional Smoking Ceremony,

• a Dhurga language activity,

• a bushfoods and medicines hunt and walk and,

• native tea making.

The workshop will be held:

• from 10am-12pm (please arrive 10 minutes earlier so we can start right on 10)

• at Meringo Headland (end of Meringo Road) brindja-yuin Country

Other details and requirements:

• Children of all ages are welcome however must be accompanied by an adult, parent or guardian.

• Cost is $35 per person + children under the age of 5 attend for free.

• Please wear comfortable clothing, walking shoes, hats and bring sunscreen and water bottles.

djinjamandjali was co-founded by Jordan Nye and Eliza Cannon.

We are a grassroots, community development enterprise based on walbunja and brindja-yuin country on the far-South Coast of New South Wales.

Jordan is a local walbunja man and has a deep passion for sharing culture and keeping it alive through cultural programs, traditional song and dance, language revitalization and knowledge sharing with our community.

Eliza Cannon is a qualified primary school teacher and was a market gardener for 10 years. Eliza now prioritises community development as her main area of work and has experience in local food systems and production advocacy, social justice and activism.
