Waste Incinerators In Outer Melbourne:

Did you know that plans are emerging for large-scale waste incinerators across Victoria? Including one at Wollert that could burn millions of tonnes of mixed rubbish over the next 30 years? These Waste Incinerators that are banned in Sydney are also proposals around Sunbury, Laverton and Lara.

At the same time, the Federal Government has abandoned its promise to introduce a mandatory national packaging scheme. Instead of making producers take greater responsibility for the waste they create, more pressure is being pushed down the line — and burning waste is increasingly being presented as a solution.

How can this be a real solution in an era where we want to build circular economy?

Most importantly, this is not a talk about doom and gloom. It’s about understanding what is happening, exploring the alternatives, and discovering how communities  have a say in the kind of waste system we want for the future and push back against proposals that don't provide real solutions.
