Event description

Time out of Time; Celebrating the Mayan Wayeb.

The Mayan Calendar is a beautifully complex system attuned to the natural cycles of the cosmos & mother earth.

The Calendar consists of not just one but three calendars each with their own purpose and meaning.

They interweave and once a year, usually in February, we meet the time known as “Wayeb” or the time out of time.

This year the Wayeb begins on February 15th and ends on February 19th.

To celebrate and learn from this ancient culture Love Bean Cacao welcomes dear friend, teacher and Mayan spiritual guide Tata Walter Quiacain in a 2-part workshop & ceremony series.

Monday 15th of February at 7:30AM – 9:30AM (AEDT)

&

Friday 19th of February at 7:30AM – 10:30AM (AEDT)

On Monday we will learn about the Mayan Calendar, the wayeb and gain an understanding of why this time is so important

On Friday morning Walter will guide us through a Mayan Fire Ceremony.

$25 each or $44 for both sessions.

Drinking Cacao on both occasions is encouraged though optional.*

About the Wayeb.

This period is a time of rest for the land, of gratitude for the harvest and all received and is the shortest month of the agricultural calendar (Haab).

It is also the time when the Year Energy changes, in some ways it is the Mayan New Year.

The Sacred Calendar (Cholq ij) cycles through 20 energies or nawales but just 4 of these hold the role of Year Energy or bearer – which is to say they set the energy for the year to come. It is during Wayeb where one year bearer retires its duties and another is welcomed. For the 5 days in between however there is no Year Bearer and so it is quite a conspicuous time.

The sacred fire is lit for 5 days straight. Ceremony and prayer become the focal point of daily life. It is a time of introspection and gratitude, of preparing for the year to come and receiving messages from the fire and spirit as the new energy is received at sunrise on the final morning.
