Join us to celebrate International Day of People with Disability!
We will celebrate and share stories of how people with disabilities have become included in their communities by contributing their interests, passions and gifts - leading to rich and diverse connections and friendships!
This engaging workshop will also share practical strategies to become an active, connected member of your community.
We’ll share tips, tools, and fun ways to build genuine, lasting community ties based on your unique interests and strengths. You don't need a special program—it begins with a vision that we all belong together!
Who is this event for?
This event is for those that have an interest in community and neighbourhood. It will also be of particular interest to those with a disability, their families and allies, interested community members and professionals. Preference will be given to people who live, learn and recreate in the City of Knox or surrounding suburbs or those who have a connection with Belonging Matters.

Guest Speakers
Mike Read has always loved music, with a keen interest in drumming. Going out to live gigs in his local community was always a passion. When he met Rak, another keen music lover, the world of music opened up for Mike. From there, his journey with the band SNUB began. In his presentation Mike will share a recently filmed documentary, which illustrates his love for music, and the friendships, connections and roles he has made along the way.
Rachel Ovari wanted to find a job in her local community. She obtained permanent part time employment at Knox Leisureworks through the Community Employment Partnership at Belonging Matters. Rachel will speak about her role as a Customer Service Officer and what her job means to her. Rachel will also share a video about working at Knox Leisureworks.
Deb Rouget is the CEO of Belonging Matters. Nearly 3 years ago, she moved into a new apartment building where no-one knew each other! She got together with some neighbours to think about how they might spark connection and foster a neighbourhood where people became known, appreciated and connected.
