We Can Laugh About it Now
Event description
They say that “comedy is tragedy plus time”. Join us for an evening of laughter and inspiration as ordinary people share their extraordinary tales of overcoming life’s toughest moments. These storytellers will take you on a journey through events that once seemed insurmountable, only to find humor and resilience in the aftermath. From embarrassing mishaps to unexpected twists of fate, these stories will remind you that sometimes, the best way to heal is to laugh at the absurdity of it all. Come and be part of a show that celebrates the people’s ability to turn tragedy into comedy. We Can Laugh About It Now is hosted and produced by Ade Ajayi and features local storytellers from DFW.
The May 31 show features storytellers Aaron Hall, Sara Jackson, Whitney Peters, Wesley Phillips, and Pamela Ajayi.
About the Host and Storytellers:
Aaron Hall is a graduate of Stomping Ground Comedy Theater and also works as a volunteer.
Sara Jackson was born to be a Muppet but is simply a man. A multi-hyphenate creative who strives to make the world a sillier place, they started doing comedy after being berated by a teacher for trying to do pratfalls to Greek tragedies in acting class. You can regularly find them on the Stomping Ground stage or in the restrooms.
Whitney Peters is an improviser, musical improviser, and Level 1 Improv teacher at Stomping Ground Comedy. She loves to perform with her 3 person improv team Kaleidoscene where unscripted magic happens every time. She's witnessed first hand the transformative power of public education with over 10 years working in Title 1 public schools. As a lifelong learner, she has lived in Nicaragua, volunteered in El Salvador and Haiti, learned from First Nations communities in central Canada and proudly navigates the world bilingually in Spanish and English. She loves meeting new people, teaching improv and helping folks break out of their comfort zones. She believes that listening to people's stories expands her view of the world but tonight, she's the one sharing her own. Her current obsession is her boyfriend's perfect little pup... Oh, and seriously—don't leave her alone with a box of brown sugar cinnamon Pop-Tarts.
By day, Wes Phillips works in the corporate world as a supervisor specializing in sales and service training. He also volunteers as a leader in the employee resource group for people with disabilities where he advocates for disability rights of employees and customers. By night, Wes is an improviser/actor, musician, and storyteller with a passion for finding healing through humor. He stumbled upon a free drop-in class at Stomping Ground Comedy in 2022, while seeking to make friends in an unfamiliar city and reconnect with fun after the end of a toxic relationship. He connects with audiences through his ability to put paint relatable pictures through storytelling and take people along with him in his journey. Wes uses heart and humor to share his experiences in dynamic and imaginative ways while touching on some of life’s most painful moments.
Pam Ajayi is a retired nurse, mother, and grandmother. She is a native Texan and a graduate of the University of Houston and Texas Woman's University. Pam is currently the CEO of the Alice Givens Jones Foundation. It is a charity that provides scholarships for students with visual impairments. You can learn more about the organization at https://www.agjfoundation.org.
Ade Ajayi is one of Sade’s biggest fans and is waiting for the band to tour again. While waiting, she produces, hosts, and performs. She produces a monthly improv jam that focuses on bringing black performers together and growing the number of black improvisers. We Can Laugh About It Now is one of her favorite shows to produce.
