WEAD Salon: Meg Schwarzman | Wallflower Arts
Description
WEAD SALON SERIES
WEAD Salons are an opportunity to gather, mingle and appreciate the talent of one featured artist. Intimate, informal, with tea, cakes and good cheer provided by the team, they are a great way to get connected into the West End arts community.
Wallflower Arts / Meg Schwarzman
Meg Schwarzman was trained as a family physician and worked as an environmental health scientist. The seed for Wallflower Arts germinated as a pandemic art project on a pair of aging garage doors, bringing color and life into a public space when many people were confined to private spaces and when neighborhood walks were the only escape. As a physician working through that scary time, Meg found painting a balm, and making public art connected her to neighbors and strangers alike.
Meg traces a throughline from her work to her maternal grandmother, a botanist who wrote and illustrated field guides to the trees and wildflowers of the American West. Meg lives and paints in the San Francisco Bay Area.
What to expect
Come and enjoy the "high tea" with the WEAD team and other attendees, we'll hear from Meg about her journey into muraling, her passion for local wildlife, and her commitment to reducing the environmental impact of her work. We'll experiment with elements of the mural process, learning how to transpose an image onto the mural site. Finally we'll share the early stages of our vision to see one of Meg's murals installed at the Mastick Center in the not-too-distant future!
How much does it cost
Tickets to the WEAD Salon Series are "Pay what you will." It is important to us that all are welcome. If you are able to contribute towards the cost of artist fees and refreshments, or even make a larger donation to support WEADs programs, we are very grateful!
