Weaving Circle with Janette Murrungun
Event description
Join master weaver Janette Murrungun, who is from the remote community of Numbulwar in South East Arnhem Land, for a hands-on weaving circle workshop held at Fabrik in conjunction with her exhibition of woven yir (string bags).
Janette invites you to, "Learn traditional techniques passed down through generations and about Maguj (pandanus) and Nanja (repurposed ghost nets) collected from our shores. As you weave, you will be part of a living practice connecting people, place, and purpose. Sit with us, share stories, and take part in keeping these traditions strong".
During this workshop you will be introduced to the traditional technique of coil weaving, giving you the opportunity to complete the base of a small basket and the materials to complete the basket at home.
