Sun, 9 Nov, 2pm - 4pm AEDT

Event description

Along the banks of the Barwon River.

In this sessions you will learn the considerations of an ethical harvest, how to split and prepare weaving materials and how to weave a basket using the coil method with a few variations to try.

Each session will start with a short mindfulness exercise to connect more deeply with ourselves and the land. Throughout the session, invitations for reflection and sharing will be given to deepen our connection with each other as we recognise the art of weaving not only as a craft but an ancient practice that holds so much for us as individuals and a collective.

We honour all our ancestors that have passed these traditions down and pay particular respects to Wadawurrung and Gulijan people where barwon river banks touch for our workshop. The Wurundjeri people who hold the knowledge of the plants and traditions of the area where our facilitator learns and loves from.

We ask that you byo water bottles and anything you need ( chair , blanket for the grass) to take care of yourself for the two hour session. All materials for weaving will be supplied.

In the event of a cancelled session because of weather, we will refund your ticket.

Your facilitator will be Rebekah Mitchell from Bush Talk. She wove her first basket ten years ago in Eldorado above Woolshed Falls and has since explored many forms of weaving and has been teaching weaving and other bush skill practices for the last four years.

We will meet 5 mins prior the session at the foot bridge at the bottom of Hesse Street and walk to a suitable location for the workshop. To ensure this works for everyone and we can start on time, please be punctual.

Sunday 9th November

We welcome you to sit with us and take the time to strengthen your nature connection and create something beautiful.
