Weaving Stories, Tending Country - Wild Weedy Weavers Project Launch
Event description
Join us for the launch of Wild Weedy Weavers, a creative community project that brings together ecological care, cultural knowledge, and fibre art. This event marks the beginning of a series of workshops exploring how invasive plant species can be reimagined through the art of weaving and transforming environmental challenges into opportunities for connection and creativity.
The launch is held as part of NAIDOC Week and will feature special guests Merningar Elder Lynette Knapp, Shandell Cummings and local Bush Carer Diane Harwood. The morning will offer a sharing of stories, reflections, and insights into the cultural, ecological, and artistic threads that inspired this project. Their work in weaving, cultural education, environmental stewardship and community leadership has helped shape the heart of Wild Weedy Weavers.
Hosted by the Denmark Environment Centre, in collaboration with South Coast Bush Carers and local weaver Linda Scotti, the Wild Weedy Weavers project is grounded in the belief that tending to Country begins with deepening our relationship to place and to each other.
Attendees will have the opportunity to register for upcoming weeding and weaving workshops as part of the broader project, running from July to October.
Come along to learn about the project, hear from inspiring speakers, and celebrate the start of this unique hands on journey.
