Description

Weaving UNDER the OVERpass is a free community event celebrating the ancient craft of weaving beneath the Ovingham Overpass, alongside the striking Indigenous weaving mural. Bringing together local residents and weavers from across South Australia, the event creates a welcoming space to share skills, learn from one another, and connect through creativity, culture and storytelling.

Participants of all ages and abilities can take part in hands-on weaving workshops using a range of natural and recycled materials to create string, jewellery and baskets.

Learn the traditional art of weaving with Kaurna/ Narungga weaver Kahlia Power-Smith and Wiradjuri artist, Elisabeth Blomberg.

A major highlight will be storytelling inside the giant inflatable Murray Cod from renowned artist Evelyn Roth's Nylon Zoo. This unique, immersive space will invite families to gather together and enjoy stories inspired by nature, culture and community.

The day will conclude with a music and dance performance by local teenagers, responding to the Nature Festival theme of Seed through movement, sound and creative expression.

Visitors can also enjoy refreshments from a coffee van and pre-order catering from local café Daisy Sweetie via Humanitix, collecting their meal vouchers on arrival. Each meal also includes one cup of fruit salad.

*PLEASE NOTE - LUNCH ORDERS CLOSE 5PM FRIDAY 18TH SEPTEMBER.

Set beneath the Ovingham Overpass, this distinctive event transforms a public space into a vibrant place of learning, creativity and connection, celebrating weaving as both an enduring cultural practice and a way of bringing community together.
