    Event description


    First Nations community are invited to The Coal Loader for a FREE Weavng workshop with muruwari artist, Virginia Keft.   

    During the workshop you will learn and share weaving techniques and be invited to contribute to a collaborative artwork for the "Keep the Fire Burning" exhibition.

    During this workshop you will:

    •  engage in weaving and yarning
    • enjoy a cuppa and feed with mob

    WHEN: 10.30am-1pm Saturday 21 September 2024

    WHERE: The Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability, 2 Balls Head Rd, Waverton

    REGISTRATION: Limited tickets, registration is essential.  Please advise on any dietary needs when booking. The event is family friendly (please register each member for catering purposes).


    A waitlist will be made available once tickets have sold out.

    You are invited to display your creations during the ‘Keep the Fire Burning’ exhibition (12 October- 3 November) at the Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability. All exhibiting participants will be able to collect their weavings after the last day of the exhibition from 4-6 November from the Coal Loader. 

    Accessibility

    This is an all-ages, all-ability and all-gender workshop. People living with a disability are welcome to attend, please bring your carer/support person with you if you require assistance to participate in the workshop.

    About the artist

    Dr. Virginia Keft is a proud Muruwari woman, living and working on Dharawal Country and Gadigal Country. She is a multi-disciplinary award-winning artist and curator, First Nations producer, and researcher. Her practice includes painting, drawing, weaving, sculpture and installation and printmaking. Virginia brings an open and positive approach to her Arts and cultural practice; promoting warm and encouraging spaces that support cultural connection and build understanding through collaborative art making.
