Weaving Workshop with Wanita Lowe

Event description

Join us for a special workshop by contemporary Aboriginal weaver Wanita Lowe to be held during the exhibition Current. Wanita will bring her traditional culture and skills to this weaving workshop aimed at people of all ages.

Wanita is a Dunghutti woman who grew up on Wiradjuri land and has two beautiful daughters of Gamilaraay descent. Her work conveys contemporary storytelling of her culture, using elements of tradition mixed with visual urban techniques. Wanita's Aboriginal heritage is reflected in her work drawing inspiration from her culture through storytelling using ceramics, basket weaving, painting, drawing and printing.

Wanita will be at the Centre from 11:30am – 2:30pm to chat with people about her practice, work and weaving. Drop in and watch Wanita demonstrate weaving or stay for the duration to make a small woven work to take home.
