Weaving for Wellbeing
Description
Come along to our first Weaving for Wellbeing workshop with Helen from Earthstar Magic on Saturday 17th October from 10am - 12pm.
Held in the small meeting room at the Skipton Mechanics Hall, this is the perfect opportunity to learn a new skill and to connect with others.
In today’s fast-paced and digitally driven world, many of us are seeking ways to slow down and reconnect. Weaving has deep roots across many cultures, and it is both a practical skill and a therapeutic activity.
The gentle, repetitive nature of weaving has a calming effect on the nervous system. The physical motions—threading, looping, and creating patterns can induce a meditative state, encouraging focus and relaxation.
In this 2 hour workshop you will learn all of the skills needed to create your very own woven basket or bowl using raffia and the coil weaving technique. A perfect way to take some time out for yourself and bring your nervous system back into alignment after the huge year we have all had!
We will be working with a selection of natural and brightly coloured raffia. All materials for this workshop are provided.
This workshop is brought to you by the Skipton Food Bank as part of their Fire Recovery initiative. Ticket prices are subsidised and kept intentionally low so all members of our fire affected community can access this wonderful workshop.
There are a maximum of 12 places, bookings are essential.
