Webinar #54 | Robyn Ewing, Eliza Oliver, Kathy Rushton - Teaching Artists in EAL/D Classrooms
Event description
"You could see their excitement": Teaching artist contributions in EAL/D classrooms
Straight from the EAL/D classroom, creative education specialists Robyn Ewing, Eliza Oliver and Kathy Rushton will be sharing all the things they discovered from their Arts Rich EAL/D Project.
Arts Rich EAL/D is a multi-arts program co-mentoring program implemented in South-Western Sydney schools aimed at improving engagement and embodiment in English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) learners. Three primary areas of new knowledge emerged from the research of the program with teaching artists: learner engagement and embodiment, successful strategies, and challenges. Specific strategies to support EAL/D learners became key to flexibly adapting the program to yield engagement and improved literacy.
The session will integrate these strategies, by using the “Mapping our Languages” exercise an arts-rich translanguaging exercise which aims to connect everyone to their experience of language(s) and increase opportunities for translanguaging and oral expression. If you have an interest in improving literacy and connecting with students who bring a range of languages and learning levels of English into the classroom, and you want to hear about Arts-Rich strategies in this space, please join us for this inspiring conversation.
