About the development of a Queensland Obesity Prevention Strategy (the Strategy)
The Strategy, and foundation Action Plan, will set out the Queensland Government's priorities and actions for the prevention of overweight and obesity in Queensland.
It will build on existing obesity prevention and treatment actions in Queensland, identify new collaborative actions and identify gaps for future research and evaluation. It will leverage the once-in-a lifetime opportunity that the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games presents.
Background
Established in 2019, Health and Wellbeing Queensland is the State’s dedicated prevention agency, focused on reducing obesity, chronic disease and health inequities for all Queenslanders.
The National Obesity Strategy 2022 – 2032 (the NOS) was released on 4 March 2022. The purpose of the NOS is to guide all governments and other partners to take actions to change the factors that promote unhealthy weight gain and to support those living with overweight and obesity. The NOS includes three Ambitions and a number of strategies under each Ambition. You may want to refer to the NOS before and during the workshop.
