Webinar Thirty One: Left without protection - Temporary visas and COVID-19

This event has passed Register

Event description

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused considerable hardship for people on temporary visas living in Australia.

Temporary visa holders are excluded from key components of Australia’s efforts to combat the economic impact of COVID-19, including the JobKeeper subsidy, and many of those on temporary visas are also ineligible to obtain access to Centrelink payments, Medicare or social housing.

Join us for this impact2020 webinar where panel members will explore the situations of those on temporary visas (including women and children experiencing DFV, refugees, asylum seekers and international students) during COVID-19.

They'll also reflect on what measures governments need to introduce to protect this vulnerable group.

Panellists:

- Chris Hartley, Research Fellow, Centre for Social Impact UNSW
- Monique Dam, Advocacy and Prevention Manager, Domestic Violence NSW
- Carolina Gottardo, Director, Jesuit Refugee Service
- Charmaine Crowe, Senior Advisor (Social Security), Australian Council of Social Service

Please note:
This webinar starts at 10:00am (AEST) and registrations will close an hour before the webinar starts.

The webinar will be recorded and emailed to attendees in a few weeks. Later in the year all impact2020 webinar recordings will be publicly available.

This impact2020 webinar is a free event presented by the Centre for Social Impact (CSI).
