Description

Ericka is a microbat specialised rehabber and virologist based in Melbourne. During her undergraduate studies in animal health and disease she developed a further love for bats. In 2017 she started volunteering with Tamsyn at Fly By Night Bat Clinic with flying fox heat stress events and rescues. Microbats of Melbourne was started in 2019 as a venture for Ericka to share pictures of her microbats rescues with a world largely unaware of their presence. Since then it has gain a lot of popularity and grown into a small business that Ericka uses to run her rescue and rehab shelter. She hand makes various bat themed items to sell at various markets around Melbourne, not only to raise money to fund the rescue, but also as an opportunity to talk to people about bats, their role in the environment, and how people can live harmoniously alongside these tiny Aussie battlers.

This talk is aimed to highlight what is involved in bat rescue, the hardships rescuers and carers face, and the advocacy that goes hand in hand with dealing with often frightened members of public.

Money raised from this webinar will go directly to Ericka's shelter 'Microbats of Melbourne'.
