Wedge LIVE Float Fest: The Gathering of the Tubers
Event description
REAL DISCLAIMER: I am not responsible for your safety during Wedge LIVE Float Fest. You are responsible for your own flotation after entering Minnehaha Creek.
Here's the plan. Meet me at the Uptown Transit Station on August 17th at 12:45 pm. Bring an inflatable tube. We'll board a Metro Transit bus to Edina. I will give a hand signal letting you know when to disembark. After a 15 minute walk, we will inflate our tubes and float down Minnehaha Creek back to Minneapolis. Feel free to dress up like your favorite tubed vegetable.
Our entry point to Minnehaha Creek is Utley Park in Edina. If you'd like to forgo the bus ride and meet us at the creek, you're welcome to do so. We will enter the creek no earlier than 1:45 pm. It should take approximately 3.5-4 hours to reach Lake Nokomis. There will be one bathroom break at Lynnhurst Park.
NOTES ABOUT SAFETY:
While I love you very much, and will do all within my power as a friend to protect you from harm, I am not legally responsible for your safety. Please consult the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District website for safety tips.
Key points:
Wear water shoes or sandals. There are likely to be a couple times where we will need to stand up in the creek to bypass a fallen tree. The bottom of the creek is not always safe for bare feet.
You may have to use your feet to push off rocks, walls, trees, or other obstacles.
Always scan ahead for potential hazards like trees, branches, and rocks. Potential obstacles will be both above and below the water.
Rough water or "riffles" can be a sign there are rocks or logs just below the water level. Try to steer around, paddling with your hands, and lift your butt up to avoid making contact.
How serious am I about this? I didn't purchase the regular version of the Intex River Run. I purchased the "Pro" version.
