Wednesday Talks // Merrilyn Stock
Description
Join us for a casual Wednesday Talk with Merrilyn Stock.
Merrilyn Stock is a ceramic artist whose practice explores memory, place and the enduring relationship between people and the natural world. Working primarily in high-fired gas and wood-fired ceramics, Stock creates vessels that draw on the textures, fragments and narratives of both landscape and archaeological history.
Her international experience has been central to her practice. She has worked on archaeological excavations in Thailand for the Art Gallery of South Australia, as a ceramic adviser with the APSARA Authority’s Department of Archaeology in Cambodia, and at Anadolu University in Eskişehir, Turkey. For 28 years, she has also shared her knowledge as a ceramic’s lecturer at TAFE.
Stock’s vessels reflect a fascination with the traces left by past cultures, transforming archaeological and natural references into a contemporary ceramic language. Her work has been exhibited across Australia and internationally in India and Turkey, and is held in public collections including Shepparton Art Gallery, Victoria.
