Week 3: Bicycle Gears - In Depth

Thursday 15th October

10:00-14:30 (4hrs 30mins)

Fort William Bike Shed Workshop, Claggan Park, Achintee Road, PH33 6PH

Cost: £18-£32

In this session we will take an in depth look at the gear system of your bicycle. We will cover hands on learning for the following:

  • Identifying and problem solving faults in the gear system

  • Replacing a chain

  • Replacing the sprockets

  • Derailleur hanger alignment

  • Replacing a gear cable

  • Setting up and adjusting front and rear gears

  • Trailside repairs

Please bring your own bike to the session. This will give you a greater understanding of your bike and the confidence to maintain it between services.

 

Cost: We ask that you pay what you feel you can afford and what you feel the course will be worth. Bear in mind the more you pay the more courses we can afford to run.

FREE PLACES- We do not want cost to be barrier for anyone. To apply to our ACCESS scheme for a free place please get in touch through info@lochaberenviro.org.uk to refer someone you work with or to self refer. This scheme is aimed at people who are out of work, on low incomes or facing other financial barriers.

Funding is through the Transport Scotland People and Places and Transport to Employment Programmes.

3 Week Maintenance Course

We are running a 3 week hands-on course in bicycle maintenance. You can attend all 3 sessions or choose individual sessions.

Week 1: Introduction to Bike Maintenance

Week 2: Brakes - In Depth

Week 3: Gears - In Depth

Is this session for me?

If you have attended our Introduction to Bike Maintenance session then this will be great session to continue expanding your bike maintenance knowledge.

If you have some prior bike maintenance experience and are a confident user of workshop tools such as an allen key and a torque wrench then this session will be suited for you.
