This is a perfect creative immersion opportunity.....playing and transforming gifts from the plant kingdom into beautiful objects and baskets.

This weekend workshop will cover the techniques and materials for 4 different baskets, including:

-Neolithic Weave,
-Random Weave with Piccabeen Palm
-Melon Basket
-shopping basket with Cats Claw,

Together, as a circle of makers, we will move step by step through the different fibres and techniques to create each basket. We will be playing with different fibres for each basket so students will experience both a variety of textures and learn how to collect and prepare.

All materials and equipment will be supplied….what you will learn will allow you to go out and forage for yourselves from very easy to find materials. The different techniques are transferable so you can use materials that are accessible to you.

With over 28 years experience of making, exhibiting and teaching basketry and fibre art Zimmi has a wealth of knowledge on Australian natural fibre basketry.

Her teaching techniques are flexible and broad, speaking to each students individual way of learning. Zimmi will breakdown each stage of the making process so that students can work methodologically or experimentally through the the basket. Zimmi will also share her knowledge of the history of Australian basketry, terminology and ethics.
