Weekend Weaving Immersion - 4 baskets / 2 days

This is a perfect creative immersion opportunity.....playing and transforming gifts from the plant kingdom into beautiful objects and baskets.

This weekend workshop will cover the techniques and materials for 4 different baskets, including:

-Open twining
-Random Weave with Piccabeen Palm
-Neolithic weave
-Random Weave with Cats Claw,

Together, as a circle of makers we will experience at least 4 different fibres and see how the techniques unfold to give unique creations.

On Saturday morning we have Open twining....a universal go - to technique that is used to create shapes and forms super quick.

In the afternoon is an all time favourite Random Weave with Piccabeen Palm.....thank the birds for this technique and our local palm for its offerings.

On the Sunday morning we have Neolithic Weave.....a real brain teaser, until you drop into the rhythm it is offering.

On the Sunday afternoon we have the robust shopping basket randomly woven from Cats Claw....you cant go wrong.

Zimmi will take you step by step through the processes needed for each basket....& speak to you in the way that you learn best.  

All materials and equipment will be supplied.....so you just turn up with a the basics....a cushion for the chair, an apron to keep your clothes clean and a cup for chai....& your lunch.

The different techniques are transferable so you can use materials that are accessible to you.….what you will learn will allow you to go out and forage for yourselves from very easy to find materials.

With over 28 years experience of making, exhibiting and teaching basketry and fibre art Zimmi has a wealth of knowledge on Australian natural fibre basketry.

Her teaching techniques are flexible and broad, speaking to each students individual way of learning.  Zimmi will breakdown each stage of the making process so that students can work methodological or experimentally through the the basket. Zimmi will also share her knowledge of the history of Australian basketry, terminology and ethics.
