    Event description

An AVP Basic workshop can help you:

    • Communicate more effectively in difficult situations
    • Handle conflict more confidently
    • Manage strong emotions safely
    • Become a better partner, parent, friend, colleague

The Basic AVP workshop focuses on self-awareness, attitudes and skills which help resolve conflicts. Step-by-step experiences and exercises explore:

    • Affirmation – building self-esteem and trust
    • Community Building – establishing and nurturing connections with others in a group
    • Communication – improving both listening skills and assertive methods of expression
    • Co-operation – developing co-operative attitudes that avoid competitive conflicts
    • Trust – developing confidence to share and to change
    • Creative Conflict Transformation – getting in touch with our inner power to transform situations and ourselves

You can start any week, and once you have completed 10 weeks and all the key topics, you receive a certificate for a Basic workshop (but are very welcome to keep coming). Each session includes a light shared meal, interactive exercises and discussion. Everybody is welcome. (If you have a fine from the police or court, and are eligible for a Work and Development Order, you can even pay off your fine by doing AVP.)

The workshop is free but a tax deductible donation helps us cover our costs.

We meet in the SRARTTS training room. The entrance to STARTTS is from the car park behind the Lifeline Op shop. Take the stairs or lift to the first floor, and go down the corridor (away from the Gym) to the STARTTS office.

There is a bus stop for route 12 within a minute’s walk.

This workshop is offered in partnership with the NSW Service for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture and Trauma Survivors (STARTTS).
