WANJOO WANJOO NIDJA MAAWIY - Welcome Baby to Country
The Welcome Baby to Country event aims to connect Aboriginal children and families to Country, Culture, and the Community to promote a sense of belonging. The Welcome Baby to Country ceremony celebrates Aboriginal babies and children aged 0-2 years, their families, Elders, as well as leading reconciliation through inclusion of non-Aboriginal families.
A smoking ceremony will be performed by a local Elder, this is a traditional practice among most Aboriginal cultures that involves smouldering native plants to produce smoke. This smoke is believed to have both spiritual and physical cleansing properties, as well as the ability to ward off bad spirits.
Join us to celebrate our koolangkas (children) followed by a Early Years service providers expo including lunch, giveaways and raffles.
