Welcome to our Sector: Our Purpose, Practice and Resources - An Induction Program for New Workers (Pilot)

Welcome to Our Sector, evolved from conversations across the state that identified a need for new workers to have an opportunity to connect with each other and increase their understanding of the purpose, practice and resources of this sector.

This induction package is for new workers to domestic and family violence, sexual assault and women’s health and wellbeing services. The 3-part series will allow you to locate yourself as a member of a workforce that is a powerful driver of change in ending violence against women.

This induction program sets you up to succeed by supporting you to join the dots across a large and complex system, understanding the context and the principles that underpin your work. It equips you with the foundational knowledge and connections to get you started in your new career. And supports you to identify next steps in your learning journey.

WorkUP Queensland and QCDFVR with input from the sector have developed this program.

This is a pilot program providing a unique opportunity for you to contribute to shaping our final products and resources through your engagement and feedback. Workers at any level, at any stage of their career in the domestic and family violence, sexual assault and women’s health and wellbeing sector across Queensland are encouraged to participate to gain understanding of the new worker induction and to contribute to its development.

No prior knowledge is required to engage in this training. We do ask that you commit to attending all three sessions.

Learning Outcomes:

The program consists of the three 2 hour modules:

• Identify your role in gendered violence ecosystem

• Recognise resources that inform and support my work

About the facilitators

Suewellyn Kelly

CQUniversity Associate Lecturer Suewellyn Kelly is an educator and practitioner with 30 years’ experience in the health, community, and education sectors. Suewellyn served on the Whitsunday, Issac, Mackay WorkAbility Qld Network and played an active role in consultations for the development of the disability Workforce Action Plan for the region. Suewellyn has a keen interest in promoting integrated, holistic work practices - both in advocacy and program development roles – to address “silo” responses to domestic violence, sexual assault, homelessness, mental health, substance misuse, generational trauma, as well as educational, social, and financial exclusion.

Jamie Anderson

CQUniversity Project Officer Jamie Anderson is an Aboriginal social worker who identifies with the Gangulu Wuli-Wuli/Kanolu clan groups from Central Queensland. In her QCDFVR role Jamie contributes to training, research projects and sector development, and she possesses knowledge in social work processes and interventions, decolonisation and cultural supervision. Jamie has direct field practice and experience in youth, family violence within local Aboriginal rural, remote and broader community sector; and has led practice in an intensive family support program. Jamie is a Committee Member on the Board of Helem Yumba (HY) CQ Healing Centre and is actively involved with the disability sector in Rockhampton in a volunteer capacity.
