This induction program is for new workers in our sector, providing an introduction to key concepts shared across the sector, the people and organisations in the sector, and the overarching structures that shape the sector.

Welcome to Our Sector: An Induction Program for New Workers is a Queensland-wide initiative designed to orient new staff entering the domestic and family violence, sexual violence, and women’s health and wellbeing sectors. Delivered through WorkUP Queensland, this three-module program builds foundational sector awareness, introduces essential frameworks, and situates new workers within the broader service ecosystem. Through interactive case studies, lived experience narratives, and expert practitioner insights, participants develop a shared understanding of gendered violence, key legislation, and the values that guide our collective response. This program complements internal organisational inductions and supports consistent, informed entry into the sector across Queensland.

Structured to run over three two and a half-hour modules, the program covers the purpose and history of the sector, ethical and inclusive practice considerations, and the policy, legal, and resource frameworks that shape the work. Participants explore intersectionality, perpetrator accountability, trauma-informed approaches, and strategies for collaboration and worker wellbeing. Delivered online, it is accessible and flexible for diverse teams across the state. Theresa Kellett

Theresa Kellett is is an experienced domestic and family violence practitioner and knowledge. With a career spanning frontline service delivery, training, coaching and sector development, she brings a deep understanding of the systems, frameworks and human realities that shape this work. She is passionate about workforce development and sector sustainability, and is committed to building capability through trauma-informed, culturally safe, and inclusive practice. As a facilitator, she draws on both evidence and experience to engage, inform and empower new entrants to the sector.
