Event description

Just as nature enters a cycle of renewal, growth and expansion in spring—so does the energy within us. As the weather becomes warmer, the days grow longer, the trees grow greener, and flowers come into bloom. Yoga sequences designed for spring often focus on moving faster or practicing deep, detoxifying poses.

These 90 minute sessions start with Yang-style yoga (Hatha) for the first 20 minutes, warming up the legs with Warrior poses and building arm strength by adding gentle body weight moves and then gracefully transitioning into gentle Yin/restorative yoga poses for the remaining 60 minutes, stretching deeply into the hip flexors, glutes and spine.

AMANI YOGA came out of a desire to create a culturally inclusive yoga space for BIWOC to feel safe and have a sense of belonging and experience how yoga can contribute to racial stress healing and well-being.

AMANI Yoga is intended for self-identified black woman, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander woman and women of colour. Thank you for honouring this intention.

  • No previous yoga experience is required – Yoga is for EVERYBODY.
  • Wear loose comfortable clothes.
  • Please bring a water bottle, towel or sarong to cover the bolsters.
  • Yoga equipment such as mats etc are provided but you are welcome to bring your own mat.

Thank you and I look forward to sharing this beautiful time together

"I discovered yoga and meditation at a young age and after a life long career working as a racial justice, human rights and gender equality campaigner, I have deep understanding of how racial stress injury impacts the mind, body, spirit and heart.

Radical self-care is the active decision to put your wellness before anyone or anything else. Audre Lord.

Many studies show that BIWOC experiencing racism and discrimination have an increased risk of developing many health concerns such as anxiety, hypertension; yoga and breath work will not solve racism, but it has shown positive results in managing stress and contributing to healing and wellbeing.
