Event description

This network is for professionals (School Personnel and Various Community based organizations) doing student and family engagement.

When: Friday, December 6th

Topic: Trauma and Growth

Trauma is understood as an emotional memory trapped in the body as a result of being exposed to one or more traumatic events.  Traditionally, it has been understood as a reality having only negative consequences and affecting only individuals.  Recent developments are emphasizing the impact individual trauma may have on families and communities at large, even from one generation to another.  Also, new research is showing how the experience of trauma may facilitate the development of unique positive characteristics which go beyond resilience.  This presentation will offer a brief yet comprehensive view on the concept of trauma, the different kinds of trauma, and its possible consequences.  Particular attention will be given to community trauma and the growth which might result as a result of the exposure to traumatic events.
