Western Sydney Community Listening Event


Event description

Join us at Westmead Progress Hall on 30 July 2024 for a community dinner and listening event. 

Expect an evening filled with enriching conversations, learning and sharing of knowledge, and meaningful connections with your community. Both the dinner and listening event are free of charge and everyone is welcome to attend, including parents with children and people who speak a language other than English.

This event is part of the Renew Australia for All listening tour, and will be co-hosted by Anti Poverty Centre, Sydney Alliance, Nature Conservation Council of NSW, Solar Citizens, the Arab Council of Australia, Sweltering Cities, Uniting, Tomorrow Movement, and St Vincent De Paul Society. 

Renew Australia for All is an alliance of organisations within the climate movement, social services, multicultural communities, the union movement, and industry. We are nonpartisan meaning we are not aligned with any particular government or political party. 

Together, we are campaigning for a historic government policy package that decarbonises our economy AND delivers real benefits for everyday people. Our shared vision is simple: A fair go for all Australians in a zero emissions future.

Agenda:

  • 5:45pm - Doors open and registration
  • 6pm - 6:45pm - Dinner is served 
  • 6:45pm - 7pm - Session begins with a Welcome to Country, Introductions, and Relational Conversation Activity 
  • 7pm - 7:20pm - Presentation of the Renew Australia for All Framework
  • 7:20pm - 7:50pm - Facilitated Table Talk Discussions 
  • 7:50pm - 8:10pm - Whole Group Discussion and Report back from table talks 
  • 8:10pm - 8:30pm - Conclusion and next steps/ opportunities for further involvement 

From 6:45pm, children (12 and under) will be encouraged to move to a supervised activity area - where they will be looked after by experienced staff with Working With Children Checks.

  • Addressing the rising cost of living 
  • Improving access to renewable energy, clean transport, household electrification and energy efficiency upgrades
  • Securing well-paid, safe, and secure jobs for the community 
  • Improving community resilience to the impacts of climate change including extreme heat 
  • Decarbonising our economy to protect current and future generations 
  • Ensuring a just and equitable transition that is inclusive of all cultures, languages, religions, genders, and demographics 
  • Advocating with First Nations communities to co-design, collaborate, own and drive clean energy projects

Getting there:

The event will be held at Westmead Progress Hall which is located a 5 minute walk from Westmead station. There are frequent bus services on street parking is available.
