Description

Wetland Adventure Day πŸŒΏπŸ’§

Thursday 8th October | 9:00am–1:00pm | Marrambidya Wetlands, Wagga Wagga

Get ready for a wild morning of exploring, creating and getting hands-on with the natural world at Marrambidya Wetlands!

Our Wetland Adventure Day is an opportunity for children to slow down, get curious and discover the unique plants, animals and landscapes of the wetlands. With plenty of time for child-led exploration, children will be encouraged to follow their interests, take supported risks and have a go at new skills.

Throughout the morning, children will be invited to:

🌿 Explore the wetlands – wander, investigate and discover what makes this special environment home to so many plants and animals.

πŸͺ΅ Use hand tools – learn and practise using age-appropriate tools, including whittling, with guidance and supervision.

πŸ•οΈ Build & create – design and construct shelters using natural materials and loose parts, working together or independently.

🎨 Make with nature – experiment with natural materials and create inspired by the colours, textures and patterns found around the wetlands.

🦎 Look closely & get curious – notice the small details, search for signs of wildlife and see what we can discover along the way.

🌳 Move, climb & play – enjoy opportunities for physical challenge, climbing and plenty of open-ended outdoor play.

There’s no set outcome and no expectation to do everything. Children can choose where their curiosity takes them, with opportunities to build confidence, independence, creativity and connection with nature.

What to bring:

  • Plenty of water

  • Hat and sunscreen

FAQs

  • Does my child need to have previous experience with hand tools or whittling?

Not at all! All activities are beginner-friendly and children will be supported with age-appropriate tools and guidance. The focus is on having a go, learning new skills and building confidence.

  • What happens if the weather is wet or cold?

Snowy Sprouts is an all-weather program, so please dress your child appropriately for the conditions. We will adapt activities as needed. If extreme or unsafe weather means the session cannot go ahead, families will be contacted with as much notice as possible.

  • What should my child bring?

Children should bring a packed lunch, plenty of water, a hat, sunscreen, sturdy closed-in shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. Clothes that can get dirty are strongly recommended!

  • Can parents stay for the workshop?

Families are very welcome to stay for a little while to help their child settle into the session. However, Nature Adventure Days are designed as drop-off workshops, giving children the opportunity to build confidence, independence and friendships while exploring and learning without their parent or carer alongside them.
